Photo competition

CNCA starts a photo competition on an auspicious occasion of Dashain and Tihar; one of the biggest festival for Nepalese.

Rules

Photographers are invited to take thematic pictures on Dashain and Tihar that portrays festivities, rituals, culture, significance etc. Photographs can be taken anywhere during its celebration time.

We welcome any innovative photographs that are even remotely related to the theme of the two biggest festivals inNepal.

Photo competition organizers

  1. The organizer of the photo competition is Calgary Nepalese Community Association (CNCA).
  2. All prizes and awards: contribution from Dhruba Tripathi
  3. An evaluation committee comprising of members and non-members of CNCA will evaluate the photographs based on expertise.

Entrants

  1. Must beCalgaryresident Nepali (not necessarily be CNCA members).
  2. Each participant can only submit one photograph.

Format

  1. Images can be a landscape or portrait format featuring outdoor or indoor scenes.
  2. Images can be black & white or color
  3. Photographs must be sent electronically. Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible (not less than 5 megapixels) and sent in .jpeg, .jpg or .gif format.
  4. Excessive “Retouching” is not permitted. Only minor image adjustment is permitted, such as cropping, sharpening, contrast, and levels. The photo must not be otherwise greatly manipulated i.e. objects should not be added or removed in order to enhance the shot and no composite images are allowed.

Entry details

  1. Photo and a short caption of the photo – a 1-2 sentences long interpretation and explanation of the photo.
  2. Date the photo was taken and long form description of photograph (Optional).
  3. The entrant’s name, address and daytime telephone number.

By entering the competition, entrants

  1. Warrant to CNCA that they own the work submitted, that the whole copyright in the work is vested in them, that they have not in any way encumbered their right to deal with the ownership of the work and the copyright therein by assignment, license or otherwise, and that if the work was commissioned for private and domestic purposes, it is submitted with the permission of the person who commissioned it.
  2. Agree that their work may be reproduced by CNCA. Winners agree to allow CNCA to publish their photographs in electronic or print format for any CNCA publication.

Notification

Winners and commended photographers will be notified by the end of November 2011.

Competition judging

Images will be judged on creativity, how successfully they illustrate the themes, and technical and aesthetic quality. All images will be judged anonymously on their merits, without consideration of the photographer.

  1. CNCA’s decision is final and no discussion or correspondence can be entered into on their decision.
  2. CNCA reserve the right not to make any award.
  3. CNCA reserve the right to declare any entry void and declare the whole competition void should no entries meet the required standard.

What we will do with the winning photos?

The winning photographs will be used in our website and publications and in our media library. CNCA will have unrestricted use of the images.
