“Would you like to join us for Halloween tomorrow?” asked Haven, my new and only friend in Calgary. Unaware of what I was participating in, I asked him what I was to do. “Disguised as terrifying characters, we go knocking at people’s doors saying ‘Trick or treat!’ and asking for candy,” replied Haven. Worried and excited as I was, thinking about tomorrow’s preparation, we nonetheless stormed home right after buying our Halloween accessories and swiftly changed as we were exceptionally enthusiastic and excited. I had bought a bloodcurdling zombie mask with a sharp scythe that would gush with crimson red liquid as if it was blood while Albert, my baby brother, chose a red devil costume with a makeup set and a small plastic spear. We had planned to start our “trick or treat” tour at five p.m. and still we had to wait another two hours. Soon, several kids were outside, dressed scarily. Suddenly, two figures walked to our patio and shouted “Are you guys ready?” in a very familiar voice. It took me seconds before realizing that it was Haven and his brother, James. We only had four people and they were James, Haven, Albert and me. The [...]
